I went to Cuba this past January with a delegation of women involved in agriculture to learn about Cuba's transformation from a conventional industrial agricultural system to one that is diversified, organic and socially just. It was amazing to just be in a place not based on a capitalist model (no advertisements!) and our focus there, on farming, helped us to grasp the larger issues the country is facing in terms of self-sufficiency and freedom to determine its future.
